Adventures in Spinning Cotton

Jane Schuell and Roslyn Darling

Afternoon

Come and learn about the complexities and joys of spinning cotton. We will try different techniques to find the path that is best for each spinner to produce a cotton yarn.

Please Bring :

Participants should bring
clean hand cards - cotton carders or fine carders if they have them, regular carders will work too
a light weight support spindle such as a tahkli, a spinning wheel with a fast flyer with tension reduced, a fat core bobbin or half filled bobbin
a plain dark cloth to use as a background for the fine white cotton that they will be spinning.

Roslyn Darling has taught spinning for many years. She is a graduate of the OHS Spinning Certificate Program, and was awarded her Master Spinner Certificate in 2019. The full title of her In-Depth Study was Homogeneous Blends of Long Staple Cotton and Fine Protein FIbres for Spinning Three Ply Knitting Yarns. She really just likes to play with fibre and colour.
